Are You Being Micro Managed?
By Gina D.
If you are in management, have you ever given much thought to your managing style? Do you consider yourself to be a laid back manager. How about a by the book manager or even a micro manager? An employee knows when they are being micro-managed. However, a manager doesn’t always recognize that they are micro-managing their staff. Would you even admit if you were a micro manager? Could you be in denial or is it a control thing with you. What exactly is a micro manager? A micro manager is a person who monitors every move their employees make, they continually ask their employees what they are doing, or monitor their work by standing over their employees shoulders and just watching them work. Being micro managed create's poor working conditions, as well as low morale for most employees adding unnecessary stress for all. It feels like your constantly under a microscope. Every move you make and everything you say is under the micro managers scrutiny. A good manager doesn't have to micro manage. If you give your employees clear and concise instructions, as well as what your expectations are, there should be no reason to stand over them monitoring every move they make. Just think how productive an employee could be if they were treated as a valued and respected employee. A happy employee is usually a more productive employee. The best compliment an employee can give you is when they move on to another position within the company and they mention your name as their mentor, or tell others what a good and fair manager you were to work for. That means you've had a positive impact on their lives. |
