Have You Ever Felt The Spirit?
By Gina D.
I'm not a religious fanatic, but I do believe in God. I don't go to church every Sunday, but I do pray on a daily basis, and read the Bible. What do I pray for? Well, there are several things I pray for. I pray for my continued good health, keeping me safe and of course I give thanks for all of my daily blessings. I also thank God for bringing my boyfriend into my life. He is an honest man with morals and integrity which nowadays is hard to find. I thank God for bringing him thru all trials and tribulations which he has endured in his life. I also pray for him to be healthy, happy and for him to know deep in his heart just how much I love him. I pray for my families well being and health. In 2007 when my grandson was just twelve, he was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma which is yet another form of cancer. The chemotherapy and radiation treatments that were going to save his life were also making him very weak and sick. Even though it was killing me inside to see my young grandson going thru this horrible illness, I knew I had to be strong for my grandson, my family and especially my daughter. She didnt understand why this was happening to her son and was questioning why God would put him thru this terrible ordeal. I told her that she should never question God and the things that he does. I told her that she had to be strong for her son and daughter. Now is the time for her to keep her faith in God and pray for her son's recovery. On Sunday mornings, I would watch Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakewood Church on television. He always had such a positive attitude about God and life. His sermon would always motivate and encourage people to always look for the bright side of whatever trials and tribulations they were going thru instead of feeling sorry for themselves. At the same time, I was going thru some difficult times myself in a prior relationship that I was in. I kept thinking that I would like to go and visit Lakewood Church one day. So with my own problems and my grandson going thru his cancer treatment, I thought there was no better time than now to visit Lakewood Church. I went and enjoyed the service so much. There just seemed to be something in the air. I would always feel so good inside after the service. It amazed me to see so many people praying, speaking in tongue, and others with tears rolling down there faces. At the time I didnt understand why they were shamelessly putting themselves out there like that, as other people like myself were just looking at these people in total bewilderment. And then one day it hit me. I was in church listening to Pastor Osteen speak about people and the problems they may encounter within their marriage or relationships. It was as if he was speaking directly to me. They always have a prayer session where Pastors Joel and Victoria Osteen and other designated staff members are standing all around the church and pray with churchgoers who may be going thru a difficult time in there lives. While that is going on the other churchgoers are praying at there seats. As I was standing there praying for my grandson and asking for help with my own problems, I suddenly felt tears running down my face and the weight of my problems being lifted off my shoulders. I had never experienced such a calming sense of peace within myself before. At that very moment I didnt feel embarrassed or care if anyone saw the tears running down my face. I then realized that these people had their own problems, so they weren't even paying attention to me. Later, when I mentioned what had happened to a friend of mine, they told me that I had felt the "Holy Spirit" within me. Its something that I will never forget. So I continue to thank God every day for my blessings. I am in a relationship with the man of my dreams. My grandson is back in school and doing great. He is in full remission. "God Is Good." I truly believe that this would not be possible without prayer. So when things get tough, it really doesnt matter where your at, just pray and keep your faith in God and know that he will never let you down.
