Have you heard about "The 50 State Quarters Program"?

By Gina D.

What is The 50 State Quarters Program?

Well, as part of the 50 State Quarters Program, from 1999 to 2008, the United States Mint issued a new state quarter every 10 weeks or so. One side of each state quarters design honors that particular states unique history, traditions, and symbol.

So of course every 10 weeks to the day, most banks have been overwhelmed by overly zealous coin collectors asking the tellers if they have the new quarters yet. When the new quarters are distributed to the banks, they usually receive one or two boxes of the new quarters which are to be distributed amongst several thousands of anxious customers. So your talking about one thousand dollars in quarters. Five hundred dollars per box in ten dollar rolls. Of course you don't have to buy the whole ten dollar roll of quarters, but most people do.

The U.S. Mint distributed a list of each quarter and when it would be released. So if your interested, its not to late to start collecting the U.S. state quarters. You can purchase a coin holder for the whole set either online or at your nearest coin collection shop. Some of the designs are pretty interesting and make for a very nice gift for young children or even an adult. Who knows, this just might encourage them to start a new hobby of coin collecting.

So here's the list of the quarters release date, statehood date as well as the mintage numbers. So, what are you waiting for? Get started and while your at it, check out the quarter for your own home state. Most banks will still have a supply of the state quarters on hand. They might not have every quarter your looking for, but it shouldn't take you to long to find them all since we always seem to have a pocket full of change........... Have Fun........

I live in Nova Scotia, Canada but drive truck into the US on a regular basis. I have been sorting out the new series of quarters from my pocket change to give to my wife to put in a special book I got at a truck stop for her. I think she is only missing one or two to complete the collection now. GrumpyOlTrucker

One of my daughters and I have been collecting the U.S. Quarters for all 50 states as well as the U.S. Territories. It became a bit of a challenge once we got to the Territories. But of course working in a bank has its benefits. So we both have the complete set of all quarters now. Im sure it won't be long before you have the full collection too. Hopefully one day soon you will be able to retire.

Regards,
Gina

Now I know why I haven't been able to find the Oklahoma P that I have been needing. The Oklahoma coin is the one with the lowest mintage! GEEZE!

I'll keep looking...

Peace,
Leon

Thank you for sharing this information, Gina.
My wife and I started saving these coins for our 5 grandchildren, back in 1999.
We haven't been able to complete all of the sets, until we contacted the following coin company.
Littleton Coin Company
1309 Mt. Eustis Road,
Littleton, NH. 03561
Emil: customerservice@littletoncoin.com
Tel: 1-800-645-3122
You can order the coins that you may need to fill out a set.
Best wishes.

CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY

Thanks for sharing this information Frederick. I work for a financial institution and came across most of these coins with ease. As I mentioned the Territory coins were abit harder to come by. My daughter and I were having some fun competing with each other, of course I still helped her out when she had some difficulty finding some of them.
Blessings,
Gina
